My first stitches…

Published by petra under General,Personal

Work week is almost over where I have been pretty busy, which made everything go by fast. And I like that. I went back to Crossfit yesterday and felt pretty good about it. I did my best to keep up with everyone else, even with those “Under Bar” exercise that I was a little worried about. I managed though in the end ;-)

Today after work, I had a doctor’s appointment scheduled to look at one mole that I’ve had on my back for ages.I’ve always been worried that one day I will scratch it or something, so I decided to get it removed.

Originally, I was told that it won’t get done at my first visit. However, before I knew it, I was laying down on a table and the doctor had a scalpel in her hand. Thankfully I was numbed, so I barely felt anything. First time for everything, and today it was first time for stitches, and I got three of them! :-)

My new monitor & back at Crossfit!

Published by petra under General,Personal

Well, finally I have my 30″ monitor in its glory and full 2560×1600 resolution! I received my graphics card that I ordered, and after a little scare whether it was compatible with my computer or not, I was able to install it and FINALLY enjoy it!

I love having all this real estate on my desktop, with wishful thinking that it will result in more productivity as well as efficiency. ;-)

After I installed and tested my new monitor, Paul and I realized that we had about 15 minutes to get ready and go to Crossfit Portland, where he haven’t been back to since late May. Since then, Crossfit has moved to North Portland, which made us happy since it is way closer to our house. It was very nice being back, and it will be even nicer when I get back into shape. Check me out working the sweat ;-)

Paul back from Hawaii

Published by petra under General,Personal

It’s been pretty hectic at work lately, but then again days go by faster and before you know it there is a weekend. Today, we had a annual BBQ at work, which was my first one. This year’s theme was Hawaii. Ironically, Paul came back from Hawaii this morning after working there for the last two weeks.

Since he had some time off, he came by to see me at work for a bit, before he had to leave and go to the coast for another day. I had to go to a Apple store where I had a scheduled meeting to figure out why I couldn’t get the maximum resolution out of my new monitor. I had to bring both the monitor and my computer. After all the hassle, my prediction was correct. Yes, I need a new graphics card. At least the gentleman at the store told me which one to buy and where, which I did the second I got home.

However, when I got home I got even more stressed out when I saw the mess. There were things from Paul everywhere, all the lights were on, including TV. Once I entered our bedroom, I had to calm down after seeing all the presents for me spread all over on our bed.

my presents

As I was checking out and admiring my new goodies, I hear a garage door opening. That freaked me out  , since I had no idea who that could have been! I ran to the kitchen and as the door opened, there was Paul with a bouquet of flowers!

I guess Paul’s trip to the coast got canceled, so he was home officially one day earlier.

Are Apple products worth the money?

Published by petra under General

Well this is a question that I’ve started to ask myself… I am not sure if it is just my luck, or pure reality… :-(

I finally got my 30″ monitor yesterday, after it being lost since the day it got shipped. Not only I couldn’t track my shipment, but when I called FedEx, they claimed never receiving the item and after calling Apple, they couldn’t give me answers till 3 days after scheduled delivery, which was originally supposed to be Monday. So when I got home and my neighbor told me that they got my monitor, I was ecstatic! However, the second I plugged it into my computer, here came the disappointment. Where was my 2560×1600 resolution?
The max I had was 1280×800, which ended up just hurting my eyes looking at it. I mean everything was just oversized.

After spending almost an hour on the phone with Apple and not finding the problem, I was told to go to an Apple store to have them look at it. So, today is the day of finding out what the heck is going on! According to Apple representative, my computer is compatible and should support my monitor and its resolution, so who knows what is going on…

I must say that I am not thrilled to have to carry everything, since both the computer and monitor are just soooo heavy. I am just hoping that someone will end up helping carrying those monsters in. ;-)

I just got of the “phone” – meaning Skype, with my mom and got a little caught up on what is going on back home. She sent me few pictures from her vacation in Turkey where she went with my older sister Patricia and her family, including my cutest nephews EVER! I am sure you will agree with me after seeing these… ;-)

If you like these, feel free to go and see more of my sister’s pictures from Turkey, and others, on my flickr account.

Encode / Decode HTML Entities

Published by petra under HTML/CSS,Tools & Tutorials

Have you ever wondered how to post code snippets on your site to demonstrate an example? I have to admit myself that I’ve tried myself to use <pre> or <code> tags, hoping that it would solve my frustration. After few trial and errors, some research, I found out that that you need to encode the html entities, like the “<” by replacing them with their html code equivalents.

Teraz uz len cakam, kedy dostanem moj 76.2 cm Apple Cinema HD monitor, aby som mohla konecne byt viacej produktivnejsia. ;-)

my new haircut

I must say that I had rough last couple of weeks, so I told myself that it was about time to spend some time on myself for once. So I did!

This week seems to be all about me so far! ;-) Well, I started last week already with a spa manicure and a pedicure, then I got to hang out with my friend Michaela and her family at the beach and over at their house.

Yesterday, I went ahead and got my look freshened up a little by my amazing friend Mars’ magical hands of hers. Not only she trimmed my hair, but also covered all those grey hair that I have along with some red highlights. Maybe now I will qualify for the next season of “Rock of Love III” (when there is one), don’t you think?

Over the weekend I was hoping to buy a 30″ Apple Cinema HD Display, but since any of the local retailers wouldn’t carry the one I needed, I ended up contacting a friend of mine who works for Apple. Like this I won’t have to worry about compatibility since I now mainly use my G5 that I got 3 years ago and just LOVE it! I am looking forward to get it at home, so I can get FINALLY more productive. It will be a nice change going from 17? to 30?. ;-)

Anyway, it is time for me to go night-night. Hopefully Kitty won’t wake me up at 5 a.m. again, like she did this morning.

iPhone 2.0 vs. iPhone G3

Published by petra under General

Last week was another big week for Apple, and all iPhone addicts. I don’t consider myself to be one – YET! ;-) I must say that I was debating whether to get the new iPhone G3 and give the old one to Paul. He seems to think that it is more big of a deal to me than to him,… is it really? Maybe ;-)

I am not going to lie that I love a lot about the “old” iPhone, and all its features. Last Friday, on July 11, along with iPhone G3, there was a upgrade for older models to iPhone 2.0. I just couldn’t wait, so first thing in the morning, I told myself that I can run the upgrade while getting ready for work. I only wish I would have known that my impatience will cause from having a fully functional phone. Later that day I found out that due to the worldwide release, iTunes couldn’t handle everyone upgrading their phones, so it wasn’t able to complete the upgrade, just like on mine. :-( As a result, my phone was not able to receive nor make any phone calls. Not fun, I must say!

Thankfully, once I got home in the afternoon, I was able to finish my upgrade and then just enjoyed rest of my evening downloading different apps for my phone to play with. :-)

In the end, after doing some additional research, I came to a conclusion that I will wait on upgrading to another phone for another year. At least till Apple adds features like video capture, flash, and maybe few others…

Happy Birthday

Published by petra under Personal,Slovak

Dakujem! :-)

Even though I am thousands of miles away from my family and friends back home, I do remember everyone and try to think of them whenever I get a chance. Living so far away from everyone, results in missing everyone’s birthdays, name days, etc.

Therefore, I decided to send my best wishes to all of them, including both of my sisters Patricia and Martina, my cousins, my oldest nephew’s 5th birthday he had last week, as well as Frederic (who soon will become “papa”).

Together with Andrejka and her mom Darinka

Today though, it is Andrea’s birthday, my long time friend. We’ve been friends for almost ten years now, but living away from home makes it harder to stay in touch. She doesn’t have access to internet, and every time I attempt to mail her a card, letter, or pictures, she never seems to receive any of them. :-( So, if you know her, run into her, say “hi” to her from me. Thank you! ;-)
