R.I.P. Christa Snorrason

Published by petra under Personal

What a day, or last couples of days, I must say!

On Sunday, as I was reading up on my younger sister Martina’s Facebook wall, I first found out an exciting news that she got engaged, but right after that I found out that her grandma has passed away. :-(

christa snorrasonAnd then today, bright and early in the morning I found an instant message on my MSN messenger that my long time friend Christa, who I’ve met in Chamonix back in 1996-1997 has passed away this past Sunday at noon at the age of only 34. I was in shock and didn’t know whether this was joke, or just simply wanted for it to be one.

I knew that she’s been battling leukemia since 1997, when she first got it but had gone through chemo and received a bone marrow transplant years back, which seemed to help. Christa has been always athletic and so full of energy, that you just can’t seem to help it from not being upset about what she had to go through, as well as her friends and family.

The last I got to see her was back in 2005, when Paul and I were flying through Copenhagen to Slovakia for Christmas. We had less than a two hour layover there, but she came to the airport to see me and meet Paul. It was so nice to see her and talk to her in person after such a long time. She looked great, as always! I just simply can’t believe that I will never be able to see her big smile again. :-(

Two more gold medals for Slovakia!

Published by petra under General,Slovak

YES, today we’ve got two more gold medals thanks to Pavol and Peter Hochschorner (twin borthers) in the Men’s C2 Slalom race and Elena Kaliska wins women’s Kayak (K1) at the Beijing Olympic Games! How exciting!!! First it was Martin Martikan, and now this trio. Obviously, if you haven’t noticed yet, Slovakia rules the world in Canoe/Kayak Slalom. ;-)

CSS hacks & conditional statements

Published by petra under HTML/CSS,Tools & Tutorials

Don’t you wish sometimes there weren’t all these browsers out there for you to worry about your site breaking when developing a site with a nicely structured, table-less, semantic and valid (X)HTML/CSS markup? Well, guess what? They are here and won’t be going away very soon either. ;-)

But that is what I love about what I do, is the challenge and finding better solutions to any issue that I might a come across when cross-browser testing any site that I work on. We all have done hacks in the past, including me, but it’s been said many times by many people that it is better stay away from them and rather use conditional statements where needed instead.

Slovakia in Beijing!

Published by petra under General,Slovak

I have to admit that I haven’t watched much of Olympics so far, since I am either not at home, or just don’t feel like watching TV. Plus I don’t like how Olympic Games are being broadcasted on TV here. You don’t get to see much of anything, unless US team is participating. However, I might watch it tonight, since it got pointed out to me that Slovakia has won a gold medal today! So, if I am lucky tonight, I might get to sing to Paul a Slovak National anthem! :-)

Furthermore, Zuzana Stefecekova won a silver medal yesterday in Women’s Trap, which is an event that she is a world recorder in. Great job everyone and thank you for representing so well!!!

Busy weekend!

It’s been a pretty good weekend, and busy at the same time. Saturday was all about Crossfit girls day out. It was fun. I came a little late, since I had to stop by work to make last minute changes to Bridge Pedal website, since the event was taking place the very next day. So, we started off with a workout that included quite a bit of running and jumping with and without a jump rope. After that we’ve played a little game out of which I won a gift certificate to a hair saloon. Then we’ve brainstormed some ideas what we, as women, would like to see incorporated into our gym.

Afterward, a little group of us went for an early dinner to nearby restaurant called Casa Naranja on Mississippi Street to which I’ve never been, but came back later that night for dinner with Paul. Not only the food was great, but the ambiance and the entire place had a lot of charm and character, which I fell in love with.

On Sunday, Paul and I wanted to get out of house, but also avoid Bridge Pedal event, so we decided to go for a hike to Silver Falls. We’ve never been there together, so we headed south after a little breakfast at Petite Provence, our favorite french getaway.

Silver Falls were pretty cool. I can only imagine what they all must be like in spring when we have more rain fall. We didn’t get to see all ten waterfalls, but we saw more than half of them.

If you would like to see more pictures from Silver Falls, go to my flickr account.

The stitches are out!

Published by petra under General,Slovak

Konecne uz mam tie stichy vonku! Uz mi tak liezli na nervy, tak ma to uz svrbelo. Vsetko je aspon v poriadku, ziadnu rakovinu koze nemam, comu som sa potesila. Teraz ma to len trochu pobolieva a stipe, lebo pri vyberani stichov mi musela lekarka dat prec chrastu, takze mi to zacalo opat trocha krvacat. No co uz, ved ja to uz nejako vydrzim... Popri tom vsetkom, opat som zacala chodit spat do Crossfit.

Finally those stitches are out! It was about time, since they were bugging me and itching as crazy. Results from the biopsy were great, no cancer, which was a great news. Now it burns a little since the doc had to remove a scab that was over my stitches, so I was bleeding a little. Anyway, I will be fine as usual. I will just suck it up, as I always do ;-)

Besides everything else, I was back at Crossfit this week. Got to go twice, but didn’t push myself too hard with weights to give my stitches a break. I will be back tomorrow for a Girl’s day out, which will include a workout, as well an early dinner. Last night, after the workout I went to Kiteboarding for Cancer fundraiser event that was held at Crossfit gym. It was a lot of fun hanging out with my Crossfit friends, got to meet few new ones as well.

Last, but not least, my sister Martina got a new haircut and I LOVE it! What do you think? Do we look a like?

Resting day

Published by petra under General

Today was all about resting for me. I was so exhausted that I didn’t wake up till 11am, which didn’t happen to me in years. I wasn’t the only one resting, Kitty joined me ;-)

In the afternoon I took another nap, did another shopping spree, but didn’t buy anything this time. Besides doing a little bit of laundry, didn’t do much. Maybe I will be more productive tomorrow.

…and it's Friday!

Published by petra under General,Personal

I love Fridays, especially getting off from work, when you know that you have a whole weekend ahead of you. Well, who doesn’t, right? ;-)

Today I was in Beaverton office, but around lunch had to go to Tigard office to work on another project. They had a Hawaiian party just like we had in Beaverton a week ago, but theirs seemed much more fun. I’ve been on Ibuprofen all day, so I wouldn’t feel the pain from my stitches. After work, since I was in the area and Paul was out of town till tomorrow, I went to visit my friend Michaela and her family. I figured since her husband is a nurse, he will be able to remove the bandage, clean my stitches and put new bandage on. I ended up spending the evening there, went to Target together, where I bought myself more shoes ;-)
